Batata song is a very spicy dish prepared mainly with boiled potato and coconut, usually served with rice and dalitoy. I have seen people preparing this differently. When this is prepared during any auspicious occasions we do not use onion in it. This recipe is from my aunt. This can be had even with neer dosa.
3 boiled potatoes
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup coconut
7-8 red chillies
1 teaspoon tamarind extract
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoon oil
Pressure cook the potatoes and peel off skin. Cut them into medium size cubes.
Chop the onion into very small pieces.
Make a smooth paste of coconut, red chillies and tamarind extract.
In a pan heat oil. Add chopped onion and fry until golden brown.
Add the coconut paste and half cup of water. Add salt and bring it to boil.
Put potatoes and stir well. Cook on simmer for 4-5 minutes until the water is completely absorbed.
