Steamed Rice Patties/ Ramdhan

When I first heard the word "ramdhan" from my husband I really didnt know what does this mean. When he explained me how to prepare this I realised we call this as "sanan". Luckily we found banana leaf during Ganesha Festival in Coconut Hill (Indian Grocery Store).The ingredients are very similar to idly but what makes this special is the aroma of banana leaf. This goes best with chutney.







Ingredients:

1 cup urad dal
3/4 cup idly rava
Salt to taste

Method:
Soak urad dal for 3-4 hours and grind into a smooth paste.
Mix idly rava and salt to urad dal batter and ferment it for 8 hours.
Place the banana leaf on steamer plate and pour the batter on it.
Steam this on simmer for 15 minutes.
Serve hot with chutney.




Serves: 3
Preparation Time: 30 mins(excludes soaking and fermenting time)

Note: Before using the banana leaf, place it on a hot stove for couple of seconds. This will make the leaf softer and will prevent from breaking.
